The first home league game of the season always brings a special tingling feeling............it's great! Last season a Robson goal was all that we had in a victory over St Mirren (Caldwell was MOM). I'm sure TM's style will at least produce more goals.
BORUC……………..6 For one of the best Celtic goalkeepers I've seen he doesn't keep many clean sheets!Last year it was 50%. Most of the time it's not his fault.
HINKEL……………7 Loved the wide open spaces and the freedom of going fwd. Played an important part in The Maloney first goal.
LOOVENS……..…5 Found Samuels a real handful.
CALDWELL.........5 Just as I remarked that he was looking much more like his old self, doesn't he try a clever wee flick with his a headed clearance which led to our first goal!!!!!!!!!! It must be the new contract negotiations that are affecting him so much.
FOX..........………...7 When his team mates recognise the great surging runs up the left flank and then give him the ball we are going to be very well pleased with this guy. Showed a great deal of intelligence in setting up the 5th goal.
McGEADY……......7 Another very positive display, full of running, trickery and, now, passing. Hope the transfer window closes soon.
BROWN.....…… ..6 Some great defensive work but still questions about his passing.
DONATI…………. 7 Space and time on the ball usually means a full repertoire of his abilities and he did not disappoint.
MALONEY……….8 MOM Two very good goals and made the first for Fortune. An overall display that bodes so well for the season.
FORTUNE………7 At least I will be able to say "I was there!".Yes, he scored not one but two good goals and it can do his confidence no harm at all. Pity about not getting his hat-trick.........what a miss!
McDONALD……6 Scored a goal and had a great part to play in the second goal but I do wonder if he will fit into Mowbray's long term plans?
SUBS
CROSAS....................5 Replaced Donati but did nothing to suggest that he will displace him.
KILLEN......................6 Never thought I'd see the day when I would watch him control the ball, beat his defender by skill and show a bit of speed...................at least his sale value is increasing.
REF.().....6
GAME………………6 A lot of clever football, some very good goals, some sloppy defending.
GOALS............ .....1. Some amazing footwork by Maloney takes him past two defenders and then a slide rule pass allows Fortune his first goal.
2. McDonald shows some great ball control with his chest before flicking the ball out to Hinkel, who delivers a top quality cross for Maloney to bullet a header to score.
3. A great pass by McGeady allows Fortune to show his composure and class in curving the shot past the keeper.
4. A good run by Maloney allows him to score from just on the edge of the box.
COMMENTS…………1. I am enjoying this style of football but, with the two full backs bombing forward, it does mean that there is more pressure on our center backs to remain 100% concentrated.

"One of my greatest days as a manager came when Celtic-our Celtic-came storming back when playing with ten men against rangers and a goal down to score four goals in the last thirty five minutes to win the league championship in 1979."

Shankly to Stein 1967
"I remember going to the old firm game at ibrox,a fixture I had always detested for the way the tension strangled the creativity out of the players involved, and taking a last look at the team. Jimmy Johnstone, who had always been one of my best pals when that side let it's hair down away from the game, scored the winning goal and I went to a family party that night as the only one who knew I would be leaving Glasgow. When I walked out of Celtic Park two days later I couldn't have looked back to see the place, in any case, for the tears in my eyes."
Bobby Murdoch on his free transfer to Middlesbrough
"The game finished in a penalty shoot-out but before then I had the ultimate satisfaction of having Pele come over to me at the end of regulation time and make that gesture of joining a digit to the thumb on one hand that signified he felt my display had been spot on. He said what sounded like 'magnificent' in his broken English and that moment will live with me for ever.without wishing to sound irreverant,it was the footballers equivalent of being blessed by the Pope!"
Jimmy Johnstone on playing against Pele in the American soccer league
"How would our 9 in a row team do against this current Rangers side? It
would be a close game, but I think we would win 2 or 3-1. Because most of us are well over 50 now!"
Bertie Auld when asked his opinion about the Huns niar side.
John Greig to Bertie Auld in the tunnel before game - "How much win bonus are you on?"Bertie - "£3"

Martin O'Neill on his apprentice days at forest
Martin O'Neill to the press - "Rangers are the benchmark. I mean that, I really do."
Martin O'Neill to the players - "Gentlemen, I will always be 100 per cent honest with you and the Press. But in the coming weeks you will hear me tell a lie. When asked by the media if we can win the League, I will say no, that we are too young and still developing as team and manager.Disregard it. We will win the League. Some of you believe it already and all of you will believe it shortly."
"I've come up here to help put Rangers back in their place"
Big Chris Sutton
"Leeds at that time were full of internationals, so were we but we'd been through the European scene so when we went down to elland road there was no way we were intimidated in fact I think the press reports actually gave us a boost. When we prepared for the game the boss told us there's one man that's gonna win the game for you and he just stuck the number seven up on the board and said Jimmy Johnstone, he says this boy terry cooper, just leave him alone with terry cooper and he'll destroy him and we'll get something out that game."
Bobby Murdoch on the english press writing them off vs Leeds in 1970 and Steins ensuing teamtalk.
"So when's the bar-be-que?"
